The two terms – Body & Soul have different meanings in the spiritual world.
Most people think that there is a soul in the body which exits at death and takes up the body occupancy at birth.
Then there is another term called the Spirit. Mostly it is referred to as the ghost or spirit.
We have to know the real meaning of these words so that our understanding of spiritual becomes clearer.
Let’s look at the body of any human being. It consists of flesh, bones, blood, nerves and a whole load of other things.
This is the physical body and we should begin there itself. You have a physical body which lives in this world because of food so it’s called the food body.
Besides food we need water and air. We consume food and water and we breathe air. The next layer is the breath body sheath.
Then we think and so we have another layer called the mind. The mind sheath is the third one.
The fourth one is the intellectual body. It has knowledge and knows what we set out to know in the material world.
Lastly we have a causal body. It’s the reason why you are trapped inside these sheaths.
The top one is gross, the second to fourth is called the subtle body since you can’t see it and lastly it’s the causal body.
Did you notice I never mentioned the soul or spirit here? Imagine you have a baby and she doesn’t breathe, then the doctor tries everything to start her breathing and put life into her.
That which gets the body going is also responsible for stopping life at the time of death.
Two things must be responsible for it, right? One is that something which starts the clock ticking and that’s what everyone calls the spirit. Look at it like the petrol in your car or electricity in your lights.
So where did the soul go? Soul is everywhere and it is not distributed or broken into bits for you and me. It’s one whole! Got it?
It’s like the space and that object is occupying the space like a planet. Does the planet destroy the space or just occupy it?
Soul is like that space and you are like that planet occupying the soul space. You are as if within it.
The entire space is one whole and we just call that as the Supersoul.
In our world we call it atman and Paramatman. Atman is a part of that Paramatman.
