Know when the Divine is instructing you. Shree KrsnaGuruji teaches one to heed the first voice which speaks in the mind. You may not be attuned to hearing that sound, but it is there with you all the time. Gurudev says one should follow their first inclination with detachment and not let the mind and ego get involved in it.
For example, if you see a person in need, your first inclination may be to help. You should help. Once you’ve completed what was needed, walk away from it. Leave all thoughts of the incident behind. It becomes a problem when your mind talks too much, and it replays the action (or inaction) over and over again.
In this example, even though your first inclination was to help, the mind starts to talk. The mind tells you all the what ifs. It casts doubts and gives mixed messages about the original idea to help. It will argue both sides saying “You should do it,” and then just as quickly it says “No, don’t do it.” Thus, it is said that the mind is in a constant state of indecision.
When you perform the job for which you are here to perform, you are performing your Swadharma. If you reflect on your own nature and innate talent, you will find your Swadharma. That inner voice, the inner voice and the Guru will direct you.
Our Spiritual Master teaches that selfless and desireless action, without machinations of the mind are actions that do not incur Karma. When one listens to the voice of the Inner Being and follows His instructions, then one performs actions which are Nishkam karma.
